JOHNSON NAMED WEST HITTER OF THE WEEK


LOCK HAVEN, Pa., April 19 -- California University of Pennsylvania issued the following news release:
For the second time in her career, California University of Pennsylvania sophomore catcher Alyson Johnson (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon, announced the league office.
Johnson played just two games last week, hitting .571 (4-for-7) with two homers and three RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Mercyhurst on Tuesday. The victories clinched the outright PSAC West title for the Vulcans. Johnson scored two runs and posted a .800 slugging percentage and .625 on-base percentage in the twinbill.
The Waynesburg, Pa., native went 2-for-4 in the first game with a pair of home runs and three RBI and then went 2-for-3 with a walk in the nightcap.
An all-region selection as a freshman in 2009, Johnson is hitting .364 (16-for-44) over her last 14 games with three homers, seven RBI and six runs scored. For the season, she ranks second on the team with six homers and is fourth with 23 RBI.
Johnson and the Vulcans return to the diamond tomorrow, Tuesday, April 20, when they host Slippery Rock at Lilly Field, starting at 2:30 p.m.
